I started a Quick Cable scarf today, again using cheap-o Lion Brand Yarn. I'm not too snotty about what I'm using if it still yields a decent result. I saw the pattern in the back of Knit.1 and it's free on Lionbrand.com, if you sign up :-) I really like how exaggerated the cable looks in that super chunky yarn. On size 13 needles I'll be done in a day or so.
Oh! BTW, the pic was taken with my new phone <3333 I've got a Mint Choclate and I have to say, it's pretty adorable :-)

I just finished a cabed scarf in cashmere/merino and silk/ baby llama. I don't know what the difference between baby llama and regular is but is all soft and cabled. I really like that pattern though. I might have to try it

ReplyDeletei'm with sean, cables feel magical, it feels like i'm totally screwing up and then VOILA! (and they *totally* impress non-knitterly people, because they look so, well, magical...)
as we have a baby llama (she'll be 10 weeks tomorrow, i just put up new pics of Pepper today, she's SOOO cute, lol) i can say that her fleece seems to be way softer than the adult llamas, although our 4 grown-up llamas have pretty nice fiber as well. (i don't know exactly what qualifies as "baby" for marketing purposes--less than a year? 2 years? llamas reach maturity--or breeding age, more properly--by age 2)
but they young'uns are pretty darn soft, so i'm guessing eikon must have some awfully nice fiber there, mmmm! *drool*
Hey...tons of that super expensive stuff is acrylic or very scratchy wool. There is also very decent wool yarn made for cheap.

People pay too much attention to the status of their yarn in my humble opinion...maybe they think it will improve their knitting. ;)
By the way...you do nice cabling.
