i dyed this yarn on saturday, for the really nice lady at my LYS. i have no details on it, it was something she picked up at stitches west. i do know it's superwash merino (dk weight), and there's about 600 yards of it. i used wilton's icing dyes in x-mas red and lemon yellow. *warning* x-mas red is in fact orange! this is not the result i was going for, but it still looks pretty great. i used a dip dye-ing method where you put one end of the hank in the pot, and let the dye soak up, as it does it fades. i dipped the lighter color first (yellow), let it cool and then dipped the darker (red). whaddayouguysthink?

Hoppy (belated) easter!

we've been really busy around here. i haven't forgotten you guys, i promise.





we dyed eggs on friday, apparently i'm terrible at reading charts. it said, as plain as day, not to put vinegar in the pink or purple eggs. i get really anxious to do things and just jump in. well, they did this weird spotty thing and the colors didn't stick. the rest turned out really nice though.

mr. bunny asked to make a cameo in this entry. i made him last year for dave's easter basket. i ended up having to give him with no eyes and one ear. i thought that i could finish him in one day. there's a free pattern and a thread full of mr. bunny's relatives on craftster.org. he's been very appreciated and needs to be re-stuffed. i don't want to split his face open, but i may have to. he's seen better days.

since this picture, mum's noni bag has been completely felted and all that's left to do is sew on the handles and put in a lining. i guess i should throw a few pockets in there? what do you guys think? how many pockets do you ladies expect in a bag? it's looking really good!!! i'm lining it with wool felt just to make it extra sturdy, mum can be rough with things.

i've finally picked up my second sock, and i've been thinking of modifying topi from knitty.com for my next project. there's a million and one promo pictures of modest mouse floating around b/c of the new album, and in every one, one guy is wearing the coolest hat. i can't sew hats very well, but i can knit them. i want this one pretty badly. i'm thinking yellow and brown or some other lurid color combo.

the croq pot experiment.

here are the results of the croq pot dyeing experiment i tried last week. i used wiltons icing dye in pale yellow and green. in person the colors are much brighter. the yarn was from stickchick's etsy shop. i love it! her sock yarn is sooooo nice! alas, i do not need anymore sock yarn. i have already balled it, but i think i may just list it for sale as the first item in my own etsy shop. there are about 280 yds of fingering weight yarn, pretty sweet for socks of a lil' lace scarf.

Thursday:

The Swimmers

Maria Taylor

On Thursday; Kellyn, Nancy and I went to Philly to see Maria Taylor. We got to the city super early, and goofed around for awhile. We stopped by Urban Outfitters but, everything looked kinda cheesy and mass market. So, we went down the street to American Apparel and I bought some stuff. I also ran into LUSH and picked up some things I needed.

The show was gr8! It was raining pretty hard, and there wasn't a huge turnout. Most of the good shows around here are in a church basement with no climate control, so it was a good thing that only about 40 people showed up. Both opening bands were really good. The Aderbats gave me an EP that I've already listened to a couple of times, it's pretty good (espesh 4 a local band). The Swimmers were a lot of fun and sort of reminded me of the Zombies. They had a sort of *new* Mod sound thing going on. Maria was quite amazing. I didn't know that her siblings were also her band, pretty cute.

Friday:

I decided to try the croq pot method to dye some yarn. It was kind of explained in the new Knitty. I soaked the yarn overnight in vinegar and water. The next day I drained it and added more water and vinegar. I poured in the dye and put the pot on high and just left it sit while we watched The Stewie Griffin Movie. It took about an hour and half, and there was no mess to clean up. You really do give up control when using this method but I'm happy with the results. I'll take a pic once it's re-hanked. I may just put this lil' guy up for sale in my Etsy shop. I already have plenty of sock yarn waiting to be knit up.

When I stopped by Lush, I got a free FRESH! face mask. I picked one called cupcake, pretty much just because of the name. It smelled so great, that even if my skin turned green and started peeling off, I would still use it. But that wasn't the case at all! In addition to the choclate-y goodness, it actually evened out my skin tone a little bit and even made some trouble spots go away! I love cupcake :-)

Saturday:

I had to work during the day. I don't really celebrate St. Patrick's day, so it didn't really matter. It was fun to see a bunch of people dressed up and a couple of people in animal suits doing the electric slide! When I got home, we watched The Science of Sleep. It's probably one of the best movies I've ever seen, right behind Amelie anyway. All of the dream sequences had tons of beautiful handmade things produced by a single, very talented woman. I was flipping through the special features and they were all about cat rescue and adopting pets. It was really cute! Our second kitty, Adrienne is adopted and she's pretty much the sweetest thing ever.

Snow Day!

Tuesday night, a couple of friends and I went bowling to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity. It was fun, despite the plethora of sorority girls everywhere. It was pretty cool to have fun and do something sort of charitable. Speaking of charitable, The South Jersey Knitting guild is holding a Knit-athon @ Ventnor City Library on March 10th from 10-2pm. I kind of want to go now, being in this giving mood. They provide yarn (or you can bring your own) to make baby hats and and strips to be collected for baby blankets. Sometimes it's nice to give just a little (espesh if it doesn't interfere with your yarn stash!).

Midnight Purls and I went to the SnB @ the LYS again, and it was probably the best one we've went to. The shop wasn't very busy, so we could be loud and irreverent and it didn't bother anyone. One of the women that works @ the shop went to Stitches West and brought back some really nice sock yarn for me to dye. I'm so excited, I have billions of color combinations racing through my mind! She also picked up a slightly new Noro yarn called "Kochoran"; it was 50% wool, 30% angora, 20% silk. 100% AMAZInG! I can't wait to get my hands on some.

I'm still working on the Noni bag for my mum. Today, I have to pick up the stitches for the ruffles, and make the flowers, and then I get to felt that beee-atch! I'm thinking of just lining it with wool felt so I can put a clasp inside and hid the part where I'm sewing the handle on. I haven't even cast on my second sock yet. Now, I'm being tempted to make a new slouchy hat. I've been wanting a new hat for awhile and I was surfing around on Hoy Fashion (a british street fashion site) and I realized the only thing seperating me from the coolest kids in the U.K. is a sweet slouchy hat.

I searched for a good pattern to base it on and found a whole thread on craftster dedicated to the the slouchy hat. So instead of picking up that ruffle, I may have a coffe and make a hat. I have that RAWR-some Rio de Plata screaming my name.

OHHHHH!!!!! It's CRaZY Snowing out here in NJ. It's been snowing since last night, and we have like 3 or 4 inches now. I know it doesn't seem like much to you guys that live in the middle and northern states but, for me that's enough. I went out and took pictures when I was getting the mail to share with everyone.

I feel like poop today. I really think that while I was sleeping last night, two monsters came. One rubbed a cheese grater on my throat, while the other one kicked me in the head, a lot. I should have checked under the bed.

I did however sew up the baby kimono and finish a little eyelet ruffle.

I still have what seems like a billion years until Dave's sister has the baby, but I want to make a few things for her. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.

I also finished my first OBS sock. I post pics when I'm completely finished the pair, the toe is a little funky and I want to see if I can re-work it.

There's some Licorice Root Tea (it makes sore throats go away) with my name on it, not to mention a big pile of laundry i might just curl up in instead of folding. bleh.

Yes SiR!

I finally bought D-rings for my Felted Military belt, from Michael's book, Knitting With Balls. I used a small ball of leftover Noro in color #51. I had to shorten it considerably. The pattern said to knit 64" and it would felt to 46", my waist is around half of that so I knit about 46" and it felted to a 34. I just secured the end with a Ben & Jerry's pin that has an ice cream cone on it. Pretty sweet, eh?

I bought some Shrinky-Dinks this week and made some pretty dope earrings. I made the yellow roses first and then I was thinking abot that song. You know the one. So, naturally yellow rose of texas leads to revolvers somehow. Anyway.... I made these:

I've been working on my OBS sock most of the day today and it's almost finished. I have some laundry and dishes to do, and then maybe I'll finish it up.

KetcHuP! A week in Photos...

Last Sunday, Midnight Purls and I went to Fiber Arts Studio in Nortfield. We stayed and knit for awhile, we both worked on our current socks. It was alot of fun KIP-ing our WIP's. Of course, we both felt obligated to buy things after staying about an hour. I picked up two skeins of Plymouth Jelli Beanz is a sorta lime green color and Plymouth Handpainted in the same neon inspired color scheme. We also did a sort of *not* online mug exchange. You can't really see the mug, but it says "Eat, Sleep, Knit" ( i believe it's from CafePress.com) and she also got me a skein of SOCKS THAT ROCK! in Lemongrass. I'm so excited to use this yarn!

As we all know, Wednesday was Valentines Day. Dave and I agreed not to buy each other gifts (we were going to go out and eat, but it snowed like crazy!) but I wasn't angry when I came home to flowers, choclate, and a bunch of Burt's Bees stuff on Tuesday night. I cheated too, I had embroidered him some unmentionables and I got him Astronaut Ice Cream from FredFlare. On Wednesday, I made Chicken and Dumplings and we had a cozy night in.

I've been knitting like crazy, I swear! This is all I have to show for it right now. It's the Baby Kimono from MDK. I have, since last night, added a eyelet ruffle and pulled a cute ribbon in and out of the eyelets. When it's all sewn up and cute I'll let you all see the FO. I've been steadily moving along on Dave's sock (Now, re-named as the Ocean Breathes Salty Sock, after a Modest Mouse song that kept playing over in my head while looking at the yarn.). I'm also knitting a piece for a friend's show that's coming up, it's about the art of the protest sign. I've had some troubles with it, so I don't want to jinx it by talking it about too much.

Today, Midnight Purls and I went to the LYS again, and stayed a little bit longer this time. There were a few more people and a lot of fun stuff going on and we got really wrapped up in the excitement of the sale. In fact, so wrapped up that I left my phone there. We chatted about knitting, museums, yarn and what ever other crazy things flew out of my mouth. All wool was 30% off and you got additional discounts on top of that! SO, now my mom is getting the cutest Noni Bag for her B-day! I'm using Cascade Sierra and hoping it gives some depth to my color choices. MP and I were also the proud winners of some sweet door prizes! Such a RAWR-some day! YaY US!

I ran into JoAnn's tonight to pick up a few things I needed to continue working on Dave's Valentines gift. In addition to what I needed, I found official looking eyes for my hedgehog and future sock monkeys. I also picked up the new addition of ADORN. There is a lot of cute stuff in this one. Shrinky Dink Jewelry and ruffled flowers made from grosgrain ribbon are my to do list. There is also a pretty exciting contest from the people @ Velcro. All you have to do is use their *new* Fabric Fusion Iron-On velcro in a project and you could win $500, a Rowenta Professional Focus Iron and a 1-year subscription to ADORN. I'm kind of excited and I want to send something in.

Our dinner tonight was the biggest fluke ever!!! I was making an easy-peasy recipe I've made a few times and I only changed one thing. It was a baked chicken and rice dish, and we only had black rice in the house. We bought it one day because it looked exciting. IT WAS NOT EXCITING! It turned into a strange gelatinous sludge in the casserole dish and it had a very strange flavor. In order to make up for my kitchen blunder, I made Lumberjack's Vanishing Oatmeal Raisin Cookies from "I Like You" by Amy Sedaris. They are so tasty even my new hedgehog treid to steal a few. When I first got this book I thought that the recipes were jokes. I've tried three or four and all of them have been AMAZING! Amy Sedaris is a goddess!

I wanted to take a second and talk about something important. I'm not sure if you guys know what the AIDS Lifecycle is or how you could do anything to help. Here is the info from the website: "(It) will take place June 3-9, 2007, as cyclists and volunteers will travel 545 miles through beautiful California from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
(It) is the official cycling event of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center.
(It) is about HIV/AIDS and raising money to help the beneficiaries continue to provide the critical services and education needed to meet the growing needs of our community.

(It) increases awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS among participants, their donors and the general public,addresses the widespread misperception that HIV and AIDS are no longer a problem -- in fact more people are living with HIV & AIDS today than ever before, which means a much greater need for services....

(It) provides a reminder that the rate of HIV infection is increasing, particularly in communities of color and in individuals under the age of 25. In California alone there are more than 55,000 people living with AIDS, and another 125,000 living with HIV, many unaware of their infection....

(It) requires each cyclist to raise a minimum of $2,500. Each cyclist is assigned to a personal "Cycle Buddy" for assistance with training, fundraising, and emotional & practical support from the moment they register through the event's completion."

The last part is the one I would like to address with you all. One of my dear blog friends will be participating in this ride and they need help from our blogging community. I'm not asking for a miracle, or for someone to donate a zillion dollars. I know we all need yarn money.

Ms. Brooklynne Michelle is the AMAZING host of "The Mosh Knit", my absolute favorite knitting podcast. She has been knitting for almost 12 years and always has great advice on new yarns, patterns and music. A lot of people listen to her podcast but, unfortunately she has only raised $175! The money she raises will still be donated to AIDS research but, I'd really like to see her go all the way and make a huge difference, and to do that she needs our help. YarN PorN!

Today, Midnight Purls and I went on a lil' journey to the LYS. I went in with no list and no planned out projects! I kept my cool though and only bought a little bit. I picked up this Rio De Plata for a sweet earflap hat or mittens, I haven't really decided yet. The colorway was way to amazing to just leave it sitting there. While we were there, I also picked up some Lamb's Pride Worsted and a pattern for felted sunflowers that I wanted months ago, but it was on sale today.

I was going to watch the Knitty Gritty Knit In tonight instead of the SuperBowl, but after 3 episodes I couldn't deal with seeing any more fun fur, no matter how cute Vicki is! So, I knitted the Felted Military Belt from Michael's book. It knitted up so quickly!!!! I felted it in a bowl of hot water because I was afraid of it shrinking too much. I promise there will be pictures as soon as I get to JoAnn's to pick up some D-rings to finish it off. I was still sitting around with nothing to do, so I popped out another hedgehog using the brown Lamb's Pride. He doesn't have a face yet, but I'll get around to it.

I finally got a ball winder BTW!!! I've been agressively balling up my stash for days. I'm so excited to see everything organized in neat little cakes in my craft room. I still have a few more organizational things and a desk to pick up and then, MAYBE, I will let you all see my creative space.

Henry the Hedghog!

I finished Henry on Saturday night, and we went out to play in the snow on Sunday morning! You heard right Sunne! It finally snowed in New Jersey. YAY!

I want to try needle felting now, and make the fruit from the new issue of Craft:. I'm afraid of jamming the barbed needle in my hand but, it has been a long time since a *severe* crafting injury. I might as well give it a shot.

WIP Wednesday on Thursday?

I wanted to do WIP Wednesday like Deneen, but I'm a day late and a buck short, eh? Anyway, this the ol' Besotted Scarf from HelloYarn. It seems like I've been working on it for ages!!! Every time I start a new, smaller project, this guys takes a back seat. The yarn I'm using was a gift from Helena, and I can't remember exactly what it is. I apologize for the awful photo quality. It's been dark and gross and I didn't have time to take it outside.

I started a Basketweave Dishcloth yesterday from the book Dave got me for X-mas. It's pretty much done, I have a couple of rows left and I'll show it off. I'm using some Sugar and Cream from a while ago went I bought wayyyyy too much cotton.

Have any of you seen the Backyard Critter Kits from Crafty Alien??? I am in love!!! I ordered the hedgehog to start off with, but I can promise he won't be the last. They have all kinds of cute lil' creatures including a skunk and a raccoon . I hear the new line will feature some birds and chipmunks. I cant wait for it to come in!!!

La famiglia della scimmia

I've been slowly building my sock monkey family. The new guy is the grey striped one on the left. He's about six inches taller than his brother because I found some cool "over the knee" socks. Sock Monkeys are slowly taking over my home. As soon as I had finished the new monkey, he demanded I give him the camera so he could take "pics" for his myspace!!!! I guess everyone really does have a Myspace!

Yesterday, Dave and I went to Borders and I finally got to check out "DominKNITrix" . I NEED THIS BOOK!!!! The patterns are so-so, but it covers a lot of things in detail that I haven't done yet. The cover is an extra cool shiny vinyl which makes it that much more exciting to put on the bookshelf or the coffee table. I also took a few minutes to check out Jenny Hart's new "Sublime Stitching" book, which was full of really cute embroidery patterns but, covers the same stitches used in the "Stitch-it Kit". I decided not to buy either, yet. The deciding factor was that the new CRAFT: magazine was out and there is a tutorial for needle felted fruit inside. Again, I understand that it is a $15 magazine but, it's worth it to indulge every now and then (it's only quarterly!).I'm still working on my list of WIP's, maybe I'll show one off on Wednesday??? WoW! #50

So, this is my 50th post! I want to thank everyone who's been reading and incourage newbies to say "Hi!".

I finally have an FO for you all! I just finished up the Slip Stitch Hat from Knit.1. The slip stitch ribbing ended up looking pretty awesome! It's a very simple variation on a 3X3 rib, on every other row you just slip 3 stitches with yarn in front. I'm pretty excited about completing my first top-down hat.

Yarn: Shanghai Noon From Cool Buddha Tonic (Thanx, Charles!)

Time: Approx. 4 hours

Loved: The colorway of the yarn, the unique ribbing and it was a top-down hat.

Hated: The fact that I couldn't try it on during knitting, and the sizing was a bit off (i was on gauge!).

I've decided to throw some of my WIP's into the pond. I frogged a few things that I lost intrest in to focus on some more exciting/important projects. My new, shorter list includes: The Moderne Log Cabin Blanket from Mason-Dixon Knitting, HelloYarn's Besotted Scarf, The second damned Knuck from Knitty, and the Vintage Beaded Gloves I messed up a while ago.

Dave bought me "Knitting With Balls" for X-mas, and he did a great job picking out a knitting related gift. There are some pretty great patterns inside that I won't have to tweak much to fit me. There's an amazing argyle sweter vest and a bunch of pretty fun stuff in great fiber choices. I can't wait to tackle a sweater or a vest this year. I'm really excited about the awesome modern men's patterns in this book.

6 Weird Things About Me Meme!

I was tagged by Sunneshine, so now you all get to learn 6 weird things about me...

1. I love bubble baths!!!! I have to avoid looking at fun bath toys/products because I lose self control. I have these amazing rubber duckies that light up and change colors in the water. I could be in there for hours at time listening to music and playing with bubbles....

2. I dance with my cats when I'm cleaning the house (ALONE). I always listen to loud crazy music like the Blood Brothers or the Gossip when I'm cleaning and it makes us all really hyper.I should probably close the shades. My neighbors probably think I'm nuts.

3. I can't sleep without a blanket, no matter how hot it is!

4. When I'm upset, I sit on the kitchen floor... I always have, I don't know why... I just do it.

5. When I'm angry or stressed out, I clean like Cinderella. I scrub the floors, and every little spot that usually goes untouched. It helps me calm down and focus on the situation (or forget about it).

6. I'm a HUGE fan of poop jokes. You can just say poop, and I'm rolling on the floor. It's totally immature, and gross. But, I just can't help myself!
