Snakes on a Ape!

Someone saw my sock monkey and needed to have one for themselves.... I haven't sold a crafty thing in a long time.... how much should I charge??? Supplies were $5, it took about an hour.

oh-my-god. if that isn't the cutest thing!!! i know, i saw the other one on your previous post...but i don't think i left a comment.

anyway, hmmm. as a fellow crafter and (sometimes) freelance designer, it's hard to just guage based on supplies and time alone. i would factor in, is it a freind of yours - someone you know - or is it someone random who requested one? also, the fact that it is hand made, and therefore no two are alike.....that should garner a higher selling price. another factor i consider is, did you enjoy doing it for the sake of making something, or did you do it to make some cash? in either case, let's say if **I** saw that iat an artist's bazzar and wanted to buy one, i would probably be willing to pay upwards to $25-$30.

Rule of thumb is at 4 times what the supplies cost ya-you can add on whatever you want after that. When I make items for people I know, from word of mouth, I generally charge the 4 times rule, sometimes 5 times.

being from the NYC area, i agree with the $25-30/35 range...he is SO friggin cute!

i had a pet boutique for awhile...it's all about packaging too. if you do a custom order and then pack it all fancy-schmance like that...well, then you can definitely get in with the highest end of the pricing. i think $20 sounds low, but for a friend ok...
