Planning and Prepping: Braided Rug

Encyclopedia of Craft; Volume 1.

I'm still working my way through the first volume of the craft encyclopedia! I bought a box of homespun plaid scraps on eBay for $2 to start making strips for a braided rag rug. I already feel like I've bitten off more than I can chew. Cutting the strips is incredibly tedious. I'm going to try using a rotary cutter for the next round. I only have a ball the size of my fist ready to go; this project is going to take forever. I've been googling different color combos and methods to ensure that I get a really nice FO. I don't want to dedicate this much time cutting to end up with a big mess.

Have any of you ever made a braided rug? Am I insane?

I've made one! It was super fun, actually. Yeah, it got really tedious (for me the sewing was the hardest part), but the finished product was great. And then I moved out of my parent's house and my mom used it to protect the truck bed from the dirty garden stuff they were bringing home. Totally ruined. :(

little bit insane :P

I'm going to take some inspiration from you and try and either make at least one thing from my monthly Martha Stewart living's or maybe try and make something each month from my b-day preset (gwyneth paltrow's cookbook)..maybe both??
