(analog) monday: letters to cleo.

lettters to cleo

Sooooo effing hot today! Ugh!

I hate the warm weather. I really can't think of anything nice to say about being hot. I hate flip-flops and shorts, the beach is scary and ice cream hurts my teeth.

However, the warm weather always leaves me feeling a little nostalgic; spending summers in our really old house that never had air with a fan blowing on my face; it was a struggle to even get out of bed if the temperature rose above 80. The doldrums of the lower middle class summer did afford a lot of time to listen to the radio and even to escape to the mall (where there was free air conditioning).

I remember first hearing this song on one of those summer days (god, i'm old) while shopping at the Merry Go Round/Fashion Cafe, no doubt looking for an IOU windbreaker. Ugh. So many fashion mistakes.

Anyway, I still remember EVERY SINGLE FAST PACED WORD to "Here and Now". I loved Letters to Cleo. I still do. Any time that the weather breaks, this is the first thing I think of. I dust off "Aurora Gory Alice" and pray that the cassette will play for one last summer.

What are you favorite warm weather jams?

oooh, another good pick.

I've loved Letters to Cleo since 1995. Fav track is Dangerous Type.

The warm weather hasn't hit here yet - though we did get some nice sunshine after dinnertime. Still wearing sweaters and thick socks - but your hot weather makes me think of Motown and Hank Williams Sr. Way-waaaay back music!

It's getting cooler here, but it's still unseasonably warm >_< Hot weather makes me want to listen to classic rock - a remnant of summer holidays with my parents, I think ^_^

I remember one particularly hot dog day of summer, walking to my friends house, sandy dirt getting between my feet and huarache sandals, and listening to Tea for the Tillerman. (That was slightly before my roady days!)

1. I LOVE that you still have a cassette.

2. I LOVE the way you described summers! I don't hate them, and I don't mind hotness (temperature extremes have never bothered me), but winter is my favorite. I get tired of hearing people whine about the cold weather I love so much and extol the wonders of warm weather like 90% of the Earth is warm most of the time.

3. Free air conditioning at the mall...so true...or the library, if your town didn't have a mall.
